Xylitol toxicity in dogs

Xylitol is an artificial sweetener used as a sugar supplement in chewing gum and baking. The cooking process does not breakdown xylitol . In dogs this substance leads to potent stimulation of insulin release and a profound drop in blood sugar and can also damage the liver.

Do NOT feed any cakes biscuits etc containing this substance to dogs

The Vet Poisons Service is reporting an increase in these cases.
